Tag-Based Paywall

mCore Pro includes a powerful feature called Tag-Based Paywall Rules, allowing you to control access to content using Kajabi offers and post tags. This system provides greater flexibility than Kajabi's native paywall, letting you lock specific posts or categories instead of a single cutoff point.

Each paywall rule defines which content is locked, who can access it, and what happens when access is denied. Locked posts remain visible—grayed out with a lock icon and optional tier badge (e.g., "Premium," "Gold")—making them a seamless part of the content experience and a built-in upsell opportunity.

You can choose to include or exclude locked content from the Filter Page, Playlist and Program pages, and each individual slider or grid.

Lock entire Categories (Modules) — You can use this system to lock both individual lessons (posts) and entire categories (modules) simply by tagging the relevant content.

Add and Manage Lock Rules

To manage paywall rules:
Open your mCore Pro template for customization.
Click on the Tag-Based Paywall section in the Sections List.

Add new Lock Rule blocks. Each rule has the following options:

  • If the user does NOT own this offer — Choose a Kajabi Offer. If the user doesn't own it, the rule will apply.
  • Lock all posts containing these tags — Enter one or more tags. Any post or category with these tags will be locked.
  • When locked, redirect to this URL — Set a URL where the user will be redirected when they try to access locked content. This can be a landing page, product page, site page or external page.
  • Tier Icon (Optional) — Optionally display an icon for additional visual effect - like "Premium," "Silver," or "Gold" on locked content.
The higher a rule appears in the list, the higher its priority.
This creates a dynamic way to gate entire sections of your course—not just individual posts.

Use Cases

Freemium Model

Create a free product that includes both free and premium content:
Tag premium posts or categories with "Premium"
Create a rule that locks all "Premium" content unless the user has a specific offer
Redirect users to an upsell page or sales page

Tiered Access (Silver, Gold, etc.)

Create multiple rules for different access levels:
Lock "Gold" content unless the user has the Gold-tier offer
Lock "Silver" content unless the user has the Silver-tier offer
Use Tier Icons to visually show what level each item belongs to
You can even use this system with ghost offers—offers that don’t actually contain products but are used solely to define access tiers.

What Do My Users See?

Locked content remains visible on the page but appears grayed out with a lock icon. If a Tier Icon is set, it appears as a badge—encouraging users to upgrade.
These locked items can appear anywhere: inside playlists, sliders, programs, the dashboard, and the filter page. The locked look is consistent and integrated, making it feel like a natural part of your experience.
You can choose to include or exclude locked content from the Filter Page, Playlist and Program pages, and each individual slider or grid.
This makes your entire content library a built-in upsell tool—showing users what they’re missing and how to unlock it.
